About
The International Philatelic Golf Society (IPGS) was founded in 1987, as the result of two golf philately enthusiasts meeting at AMERIPEX in Chicago in 1986. They decided to see if others would be interested in learning more about golf philately.
IPGS has grown into a society of over 250 members from more than 20 countries worldwide. A quarterly journal, TEE TIME, was begun in the third quarter of 1987, and has been published on a quarterly basis ever since. Articles are written by members, and cover a wide variety of items related to golf philately. Once of the most popular features of the journal is a running “catalogue” (checklist) of golf stamps and postal stationary issues, which is updated every issue as new items are produced, and also includes “new” issues from years past which are discovered to include a golf theme.
One feature of IPGS is a members’ auction, where items are put up for bid by members, and members bid on the items through the IPGS Auction Manager, on of the society’s officers. Another feature is a membership directory, listing the names and addresses of all IPGS members, so that members can correspond with each other, exchanging philatelic items and golf philately knowledge.
IPGS is affiliated with the American Philatelic Society (APS), and the America Topical Association (ATA). Many IPGS members are members of these prestigious philatelic organizations, although membership in them is by no means a requirement for membership in IPGS.
